SBC LTER Website Privacy Policy
The Santa Barbara Coastal (SBC) Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) project is committed to protecting the privacy and accuracy of your confidential information to the extent possible, subject to the policies of our parent organizations and to provisions of state and federal law. Other than as required by laws that guarantee public access to certain types of information, or in response to subpoenas or other legal instruments that authorize access, personally-identifiable information is not actively shared. In particular, we do not redistribute or sell personal information collected on our web servers.
Information collected: The website may occasionally collect personal information such as name, address, e-mail address, telephone number(s), and/or research interests. Our servers typically collect the following information: Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer being used, web pages requested, referring web page, browser used, date and time. SBC may collect statistics identifying particular IP addresses from which our websites are accessed.
SBC may also use third party tools (e.g. Google Analytics) to collect statistics identifying particular IP addresses from which our websites are accessed (see Google's Privacy Statment).
Use of collected information: SBC LTER may use personal information collected from this website for tracking downloads of data or other material, for future communication with those users, or for administrative purposes.
SBC LTER may use IP addresses, browser type and anonymous browser history to report information about web site access and for profiling purposes. This information is generally used to improve the site's presentation and usability, and for creating reports for funding agencies. We also may use IP address information for troubleshooting purposes.
Some SBC activity may require "cookies" in order to deliver web content specific to individuals. Sensitive personal information is not stored in cookies.
Distribution of collected information: SBC will not disclose, without your consent, personal information collected about you, except for certain explicit circumstances in which disclosure is required by law. SBC will not distribute or sell personal information.
Responsibility for linked sites: While using a SBC LTER web page, you may encounter hypertext links to the web sites of organizations not directly affiliated with us. SBC LTER does not control the content or information practices of external organizations. We recommend that you review the privacy statements of these organizations.
